Here is the rune lore of the Danish Younger Futhark, but you should amplify these meanings with the ones of the correspondent symbols of Elder Futhark.

FE keeps the meanings of the first rune of the Elder Futhark, but it has even more explicit meaning of gold. It represents the power that must be circulated in order to produce beneficial effects, just like the possessions of gold. It is a source of the vital energy, life-power. When it appears in divination, it is related to wealth or a hidden development of a new flow in life. Most of the runes may appear in the negative aspect, which depends on the surrounding runes or whether you have chosen to read the inverted meanings. Such aspect of this rune may alert you against the strife and conflicts which could be caused by unbalanced circulation of riches, or it could warn you against the growth of your own greed. The power of Fe should be exchanged with honesty and generosity.

UR became a little distant from the original meaning of the Elder Futhark’s rune Uruz. Partly, it even includes the meanings of the extinguished runes Wunjo and Othala. It represents vital energy in forms of primal elements of creation – powers that can create life from the inorganic, a base which all the new created things need to begin to exist. This symbol kept the ability of Uruz rune to magically help in healing. Its appearance in divination signifies the revealing of inner or unselfish goals and the gaining of strength for reaching them. Ur produces a fertile ground for the realization of intentions. Its inverted meaning thus implies weakness instead of strength, and as always, that includes all levels – this may signify illness on physical ground, domination by others on a social level, blindness considering personal goals on a divine level.

THURS means ‘giant’, a great force whose power overcomes all resistance, and may only be beaten by certain divine powers (Thor is the greatest protector of the Gods and the mankind against the Giants, because they can not beat him in strength or in weapons). Thurs represents all the fearful forces of Nature – fire, ice, earthquakes – that can not be escaped, but it also bears the meaning of the protection against them in the form of the god Thor and his weapons. So, in the magical use, this rune can be used like a powerful talisman which will aggressively protect you from harmful powers. It can also bind the runes of opposing powers into a productive energy, like in the Icelandic stave ‘Svefnthorn’ (it is a galdrastafir, a magical sign made of combined runes – a rather frequent custom in Icelandic runic shamanism). But, if Thurs is shown to you in reading, it most probably warns you of the forces that are opposing you at the time of divination, even if you are not aware of them yet. The negative aspect increases this warning into a possibility of a forthcoming crisis, or even betrayal.

OSS (or in Old Icelandic -ASS) has a sense of the mouth of a river (estuary), related to the embodiment of the divine word intelligence in the Ansuz rune. The divine aspect of the forth rune remains, and even though other meanings are added, the godly one is emphasized by the rare usage of this rune. There are two a-letters in Younger Futhark, and this one is used only for the very rare pronunciation form – therefore, it’s usage as a letter is exclusive. Estuary is a symbol of redefined nature forces that always find their way back to their final destinations. It represents the divine goal and purpose, the inevitable long-term processes. The river channels which are refilled with a flow even after they have been dried out for years, and redirected towards the same estuary, stand for the consciousness connected with divine powers of inspiration and intuition combined with intellect. The meaning of spoken word refers specifically to the Galdrafothur (‘Father of Galdor/Incantation) Odin. Ass rune implies that inspirational and rational knowledge are present, answers shall be revealed under these aspects, but in negative circumstances, this rune could warn against wrong understanding of the sought answers.

RAEIDH (Old Icelandic REIDH) means literally ‘riding’, but includes the meanings of horse, vehicle (chariot) and road. Therefore, it is a rune of journey, again on the several levels, physical, social or spiritual one. The later one presents the soul as a rider, and the body as a vehicle which, like a horse or a wheel, might be exhausted from the adventure. Raeidh is to be used as a catalyst of guiding energies towards their right pathways, or guide to higher goals. It can even be used to gain success in legal matters. When it appears in divination, Raeidh implies ordered or cyclical growth in life-journey, unexpected help on this path, and its negative aspect professes crisis in form of inability to move forward, or injustice or some other obstacle to retain the right course.

KAUN looses the meaning of Kennaz‘s need fire. Quite opposite, it now represents the hardly controllable and possibly destructive power which tears things apart and breaks them to their primal elements. But if the control is gained over it, it becomes the flame of creativity – hearth fire. This symbol took over some mysteries of Gebo (generosity, hospitality, harmonic exchange) and Inguz (male fertility, procreation). Kaun should be used in magic for directing the energy to creativity, and, under the influence of the Inguz’s symbolism, for sex magic. The word Kaun literally means ‘sore’ or ‘wound’, which refers to gaining new insights through suffering. This may apply to Odin’s sacrifice and self torture in order to realize the runes and their powers. So, when Kaun is shown in rune-casting, it usually means that some kind of illness or degeneration is going to precede an illumination and regeneration. If appeared in a very good aspect, it excludes the disease and brings the sign of creative transformation.

HAGALL, just like Hagalaz from the Elder Futhark, means ‘hail’, the rapid transformation. Hailstone can be a destructive heavenly projectile, that can ruin long-term workings of nature and men, but it also preserves the essence of beings, because all the ice-runes are connected to a cold realm of Niflheim which guarded the life inside its womb before it came to creation. This rune can be used for increasing the realization of structure and organization of one’s world, but it can also be used as a protection talisman. When it’s shown in divination it indicates sudden crisis and misfortune. The situation should be transformed based on higher structural principals of cosmos.

NAUDH is ‘need’, or more precisely resistance and captivity linked with need. Its beginning comes usually from the outside sources, but it can be successfully controlled by an individual. The symbolism of Naudh includes the one of Naudhiz – ‘need-fire’ which must come from within to break the enslavement brought by this rune. Naudh can be used against stressful situations in life and may help to develop the person’s will. If it is appeared in rune-casting, it indicates resistance and obstacles from both outer and inner sources. It brings out the necessity of recognizing your own destiny and laying out innovative solutions for overcoming the restraining situation.

ISS means ‘ice’, one of two basic elements for creation of life within the cosmos. It alone signifies stillness and coldness, but if it comes in contact with its opposite – fire, they will contract into such unexpected forms as it happened in the very beginnings of it all, according to the Old Norse creation Myth. When the fire sparks from Muspellheim reached icy drops from Niflheim, their combined forces filled the great emptiness of Ginnunga Gap with life breath. Therefore, power of ice is required as a balance to fire-realms. It embodies the power to freeze the events, it holds the situation in stillness and under this aspect, it can work as either beneficial or destructive factor, because it can either be an obstacle to positive movements that have already taken place, or it can be placed as an opponent to unwanted and too rapid motion. Iss can be used in magic to solidify the will and self-consciousness, or control the elements of your quest which are moving too fast. If it appears in rune–casting, it may alert you of stagnation, or it can advise you against being too focused on yourself.

AR has similar meanings to Elder Futhark’s Jera – it means ‘year, harvest’ or even ‘good harvest’, and it concludes the cold-cycle of the three previous runes with positive outcome. It represents the harvest of fertile land which will be fruitful if the proper skills were applied at the right time. Nature or the external aspects are of a great help, because one can count on their cycles, but only the right actions according to these cycles shall lead to beneficial results, the best of which are peace, harmony and prosperity. This rune can magically help you with gaining the knowledge of cosmic cycles and how to use them for your own prosperity. If Ar appears in divination, it professes that the reward for your past actions shall be delivered to you in form of harmonious life, but if this rune is badly appeared it can signify poverty instead of prosperity and disagreements instead of peaceful life, again based on your previous actions.

SOL represents Sun, but it is important to remember that unlike most mythologies, the Norse one saw the Sun as a feminine aspect (goddess Sunna or Sol, or Mani’s sister Sani), while the Moon was masculine. This was maybe, more logical, and braver, applying feminine attributes to the Lifebringer itself, and that uncovers the informations of the society in those times, which worshiped women instead of fearing their mystic aspects hidden in the moon powers. Like a mythic mother, the Sun nurtures the nature, which was even more important in the cold regions of the North, where it powerfully destroys the constrictive forces of Ice. It is a guide and direction for spiritual growth. The rune Sol gives the divine guidance to higher spiritual goals. It can be used to break the obstacles towards higher causes. In divination, it indicates guidance, hope and, eventually, success. Its negative aspect is that it can lead you to your goals, when they aren’t the right ones.

TYR was the one god who dared to give his hand in oath to bind Fenris the wolf, even though he knew that the oath wasn’t legitimate, but it was just. He sacrificed his arm for the safe of the Gods and the Mankind. He is the God of law and order in human world, as well as in Universe. Even nowadays the custom to raise the right hand while taking an oath (even in the court) remains, and it descends from this particular legend. When Tyr’s rune is used in magic, it can help you gain victory in disagreements, and especially in legal matters. It can also help you gain part of the knowledge which Odin obtained through his sacrifice. Poets often referred to any God, but especially Odin, as Tyr. This word could simply mean ‘God’, but it would be clear which one through metaphors (‘Tyr of the Hanged’ for example, was clearly applied to Odin). The rune Tyr is referred to the God Tyr, but in the sense of self-sacrifice of Gods, it can imply Odin’s, too. If this rune appears in rune-casting, it reveals the presence of faithfulness in your life, and the power of justice which will prevail. It also alerts of the perhaps needed self-sacrifice to protect your interests or interests of the close ones. It advises you to use logical thought to throw light over the problems. If it is badly positioned, it implies the presence of injustice.

BJARKAN is a womanly rune, representing regeneration and rebirth. It means ‘birch’ or even more closely ‘birch-twig’, and it refers to major feminine deities, like Freya. It indicates processes from birth till rebirth in nature, humans, on conscious and unconscious levels and in Universe. It involves mysteries of the Wyrd, referring to hidden past influences. This rune can be used as help for concealment, or for creating a shelter required for transformation processes on any level – creative, spiritual or simple physical, just like the womb is required for a child to be able to taste the breath of life. Bjarkan professes new beginnings if it appears in rune-casting, or changes which follow natural patterns. It can imply the growth of the spirit considering the awareness of the processes of the Wyrd, but its negative aspect indicates the unclear sight of the Wyrd and obstacles in spiritual development.

MADHR is the rune of humanity. It means ‘man’, but it refers to all people, their mutual bonds and their relation to divine aspects, for it were the Gods those who had shared with the human race the gifts of consciousness, mind and intellect. Even the life and mortality were their gift to us. So, this rune represents the divine structure inside each one of us. If it is used for magic, this rune will be your gainer of wisdom, intelligence, higher consciousness, knowledge, awareness, and other gifts from Gods, and if it appears in divination, it will advise you to use these gifts, and implies the presence of divine bonds. If it appears negatively, it informs you of danger which lies inside the self-delusion.

LOGR refers to the power of water in its every form (deep and unpredictable ocean, fast and powerful waterfalls, continuous flows of rivers, pure wells, strong waves…). This rune is a symbol of the life flows and the circulating of energies within human bodies, spiritual bodies, or even one giant cosmic body. It represents the path of organic life from the beginning to the end of its existence. It can be referred to the numerous rivers of Niflheim that are circulating throughout the Universe nurturing the roots of the Ash Yggdrasil. The three wells are connections between different worlds of Cosmos – one of them is in the cold Niflheim itself, one of them is placed inside the walls of Midgard, and one of them reaches as high as to the heavenly Asgard. A human’s pathway is similar: it begins within the empty darkness of a mother’s womb, created from just two invisible substances, it is then brought to the world of men, and finally elevated to the realms of the Dead. When this rune appears in divination, it uncovers the presence of vital forces, growth, even purification and cleansing on some level. Its negative aspect shows the diminishing of life forces. Its magical use develops the life forces and can help in washing away the unwanted elements.

YR is the final rune of the Younger Futhark. Its shape symbolizes three roots of the World Tree. Its meaning is connected to a bow which was made of yew tree in ancient times, so it symbolizes tension, hidden energy waiting to be furiously released. Yew tree symbolizes eternal life for it can live up to two thousand years, but it was also seen as the death tree because it has poisonous berries and needles. This runic symbol was called ‘death rune’ in the Teutonic lore, and it was to be written next to the person’s time of death, while the rune Man was put next to the date of birth. Yr holds the significations of both Eihwaz (the yew rune) and Elhaz (the elk rune) of the Elder Futhark. This rune can be used within death curses, but also for one’s powerful protection. If it appears in rune-casting, it professes conclusion of some processes, or promises protective influences. But negative aspect of this rune points to bad outcome of the situation with little possibility for the questioner to influence on it.
