The Vanir are the divine family that inhabits Vanaheim. They are Gods of nature and magic. They used to be in a war with Aesir for a long time, but finally they reconciliated. As a token of peace, Aesir took Njord and his children as a hostage, and Vanir took Hoenir.

NJORD
Njord is the God of wind, sea and fire. He is the protector of hunters and lands. His abode Noatun lies by the sea. He is married to Skadi, daughter of giant Thjazi. When the Aesir killed Thjazi, they promised Skadi any husband of the Aesir she wants judging by his feet. She chose Njord. He is the father of Frey and Freya.

FREY
Frey, meaning 'Lord', is the god of summer rain and the shining sun; he brings the fruit of the Earth and prosperity of men. He is a god of fertility, nature gifts, pleasures and well-beings. He is often depicted with erected phallus. This deity is called Yngvi, or Ingus or Ing in different areas - this name is added to the rune of fertility and prosperity of Elder Futhark.
Frey is the owner of the boar Gullinbursti, for whom the dwarves had made golden mane and bristles that shine even through the deepest darkness. He is also known as a possessor of the best ship of all - Skidbladnir - that can be put in a pouch, but when its sails are raised, the favor winds start to blow immediately. He used to be the possessor of a sword so good, that it fights for itself. But once he had sat on Odin's high seat Hlidskjalf, and his act was avenged: he saw the most beautiful woman Gerdr, daughter of a man called Gymnir and a giantess Aurboda. Frey bided his messenger Skirnir to go on his behalf and bring her to him. Skirnir's condition was getting Frey's sword. Frey gave it right away. Skirnir managed to persuade Gerdr to come at the appointed place in nine days, but even that seemed too long for Frey. This is how his desire had left him weaponless. The day he shall miss his sword most shall be the dark Ragnarok.

FREYA
Freya, whose name literally means 'Lady', is the most worshipped female deity of Nordic mythology. She is considered to be the goddess of love, passion and marriage. She is also the goddess of the slain - she gets to pick half of the slain in battles to be in her dwelling Folksvangr ('folk-plain') and her hall Sessrumnir. The proverb 'Ladies first' may even come exactly from the fact that she chooses the slain before the Valfather Odin does. She is probably the chief Valkyr. For all this, she is sometimes referred to as Valfreya - Lady of the Slain.
Her chariot is pulled by cats. She is the possessor of Brisingamen, a necklace that led her towards her miserable faith. The story goes as follows: Loki placed the greed for gold into her heart, so she secretly went to beg four dwarves to make her a beautiful golden necklace. Their price was a night with each. She hard willingly agreed to that disgusting proposal and when she had received the necklace, she was inseparable from it.
When her loved one, Odur, found out about it, thanks to Loki, of course, he abandoned Freya. She has been wandering around the world since then looking for him and crying out the tears of amber.
Her sacred day is Friday, and that is why the weddings were held precisely on that day.
