The Norns are the creatures that define destinies, whether those of single persons, or the destiny of entire world. It is said to exist three kinds of Norns: the ones that descend from elves appoint cheerful life to men; the ones of the dwarfs' race govern those men who suffer evil fortunes. The three norns at the Urd's Well come from the race of Gods.
The three Norns of world's faith are Urd (Past), Verdandi (Present) and Skuld (future). They spin the web of Wyrd in their hall by the well of Urd, where one of the roots of the world tree ends. Their greatest symbolical purpose might be to help us discover the spiritual meaning of the Wyrd and the combined influences of the past, present and future on one's destiny. All of this should make an important effect in developing capabilities of rune-mastering.

Men are the population of Midgard. They are created by Gods, who are their protectors. After they had created the race of men, they instantly built them a firm citadel to protect them of giants. Gods shared their greatest gifts with us, including gifts of speech, sensing, thinking, and even higher ones such as poetry, or part of rune-knowledge.

ASK & EMBLA
These were the first man and woman, named by ash (ask) and elm (embla) tree, from which they were crafted. Precisely, when Odin, Vili and Ve had finished creating the world, they found the two trees, shaped them, and each one of them gave one of divine gifts to the lifeless forms: Odin gave them life and spirit, Vili feeling and Ve form, speech, hearing and sight.

MUNDILFARI
Mundilfari is the father of two children, which he named Moon and Son. Those names insulted the Gods so much that they set the children to illuminate the world, always running away from two wolves, so that they would never terminate the cycle deliberately.

LIF & LIFTHRASIR
A man Lif and a woman Lifthrasir are the two of mankind that are hidden in Hoddmimir's Holt, a place inside the world tree. After the Ragnarok, they shall rise and populate the world with the race of men again.
